How to Program ALL Lost Keys for a BMW X5?

BMW keys can be programmed with the help of AutoHex II in any key loss circumstances.

However, there will be various considerations that occur in the case of the BMW E70/E71 X5 and X6.
E70 and E71 come with two different versions of EGS, one with 8 horsepower and the other with 6 horsepower, and both TCUs have EWS enabled (EGS has security enabled). The CAS and DME/DDE of the vehicle is the same as the ISN for 8hp EGS, which is a lengthy 16-byte ISN.

When the 6hp EGS was installed in a BMW E70 or E71 and the supplied DME or DDE had a long ISN, it was necessary to use the same DME or DDE’s long ISN to unlock the CAS and program the key from key learning option 4.

E70/E71 Special Case for BMW

For the E70 and E71 with 6hp EGS and those with DME ISN as small as 2 bytes (4 digits), EGS also includes the 4 bytes ISN(8 digits); in this case, the DME ISN is a part of the EGS ISN, and CAS has EGS ISN stored and synced to ensure the smooth operation of the car.
In every instance where a BMW key needs to be programmed, the ISN in the CAS is used to bypass the security and obtain the key, and we obtain the ISN from the DME/DDE since it is accessible for reading. Therefore, CAS stores DME and EGS ISN, and EGS itself also have this ISN synchronized internally in 6hp E70 and E71 with DME short ISN. BMW keys cannot be programmed with the DME/DDE ISN alone in order to bypass CAS security; moreover, an EGS ISN is needed.

To program the key, read the DME ISN from ISN manager option 1; the ISN will be 2 bytes long. Then, select ISN manager option 3 to read EGS ISN with AutoHex.
Option 3 of the ISN manager software will ask if you want to sync EGS with CAS; click no because we don’t need to sync but only need ISN inside EGS. Check the EGS ISN with DME, which will be the ISN inside CAS and used to program the key.

Key Programming for BMW

To program the key, use EGS ISN followed by DME ISN; both will add up to the 4 bytes ISN and the key can be programmed from key learning option 4 for all key lost situations.
Furthermore, all other procedures for programming the key once it has ISN are the same as for other E series models. To program the CAS, you can create a blank key with HexTag/HexProg or a key with the key file.

We also recommend you use the BMW CAS3 CAS3+ OBD2 key programmer as an option.

The below video shows how it works via OBD2.
